I am majoring in special education, and want to work with students with autism and/or multiple disabilities.

I just switched from Music Education with a concintration in voice and a goal of teaching general music in primary and elementary schools to an English major with a concintration in creative writing. I will also be completing the education program at SUNY Brockport for New York State teachers' certification in grades one through six, with the goal there to become a primary or elementary classroom teacher. I have however been leaning more towards teaching highschool English, as I work through the English program. If I do decide to switch my education focus from primary and elementary to middle and highschool I will have to change my concintration within my major as you must have a concintration in literature in order to become a highschool English teacher. The Creative Writing concintration is only acceptable for teaching certification for the younger grades. For my masters' however I may decide to pursue a career as a TVI depending on how I like my bachilors' in English Literature. Before switching majors and deciding upon SUNY Brockport I attended SUNY Potsdam and the Crane School of Music. I am currently on a leave of absence from SUNY Brockport while I have my baby. I may take some simple courses at Monroe Community College during my three semester long leave from Brockport as I can take as few courses as I like and can do so at home via the internet while I enjoy my first year with my child. I am very seriously considering home-schooling my child which might be a bit difficult while working towards my undergrad and grad degree, but I would really rather not see my son or daughter go through the public school system and I do not anticipate being able to afford a private school while I am going to school and my fiance is teaching and attending college at the same time. I believe that our educational system has a lot of room for improvement and so I want to do everything possible to improve it as an educator.

I'm currently getting my Bachelor's in English lit from NYU. I'll finish in May of 2009, and after, plan to get a masters and New York State teaching certification to teach high school English.

Hey, thats great I hope it goes well for you all. I'm majoring in Special Education specifically to teach blind and visually impaired high school students. If time allowed me to, I would like to concentrate on English, Creative Writing, and Literature as my area of expertise.
